John comes from a family of accountants and lawyers – but he initially went in a different direction and spent 10 years managing restaurants and bars. However, it became apparent that his skills in accounting, computing and business management could be put to better use if he followed in the family’s footsteps, so he completed an accounting degree in Glasgow, married an Australian, moved to Australia, and joined the accounting profession in Adelaide.
As a Senior Manager, John works with his own client base, reviews the work of his team and focuses on applications to streamline processes to provide relevant and up-to-date information for businesses, especially in construction and retail. He also spends time guiding the members of his team in their own career paths.
John says that the most rewarding parts of his job are meeting new clients, finding areas for improvement in their accounting processes and creating a clear map on where their business is heading. He’s known for being knowledgeable and tech-savvy, and as the leader of Oreon’s Cloud Solutions team, he often uses his skills and experiences in applications and integrations such as Xero, Futrli, Vend, Cliniko and Lightspeed to help clients improve data accuracy and efficiencies in their finances.
In his spare time, John serves as the treasurer of Inside Line, South Australia’s downhill mountain bike club, where he manages numerous state and national level events each year.
